Creating Alert Rules
Alert rules tell StorePulse what to watch for. Each rule defines a metric, a condition, and a threshold. When the condition is met, an alert event is generated.
Creating a New Rule
- Navigate to the Alerts page.
- Click New Rule.
- Configure the rule:
Metric
Choose which metric to monitor. Options include:
- Gross Sales
- Net Sales
- Customer Count
- Void Amount
- Cancellation Amount
- Scan Rate
- Average Basket Size
Condition
Choose the comparison operator:
- Above -- Triggers when the actual value is higher than the threshold
- Below -- Triggers when the actual value is lower than the threshold
Threshold Value
Enter the numeric value that defines the boundary. This is the number that the actual metric is compared against.
Examples:
- Metric: Gross Sales, Condition: Below, Threshold: $5,000 -- alerts you when daily sales drop below $5,000
- Metric: Void Amount, Condition: Above, Threshold: $500 -- alerts you when voids exceed $500 in a day
- Metric: Scan Rate, Condition: Below, Threshold: 90 -- alerts you when scan rate drops below 90%
Stores
Select which stores this rule applies to. You can apply a rule to:
- A single store
- Multiple specific stores
- All stores
- Click Save to activate the rule.
Rule Examples
Here are some commonly useful alert rules:
| Rule Name | Metric | Condition | Threshold | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Low sales day | Gross Sales | Below | $5,000 | Catch unexpectedly slow days |
| High voids | Void Amount | Above | $500 | Flag potential loss prevention issues |
| Low scan rate | Scan Rate | Below | 90% | Monitor cashier scanning compliance |
| Low customer traffic | Customers | Below | 200 | Detect drops in foot traffic |
| High cancellations | Cancellations | Above | $300 | Watch for excessive cancellations |
Editing a Rule
Click on any existing rule in the rules list to open it for editing. Change the metric, condition, threshold, or store assignment and click Save.
Disabling or Deleting a Rule
- Disable: Toggle the rule off to stop it from evaluating without deleting it. You can re-enable it later.
- Delete: Remove the rule permanently. Past alert events generated by this rule will still be visible in your history.
Start with 3-5 rules covering your most critical metrics. Too many rules can create alert fatigue, where you start ignoring notifications because there are too many. You can always add more later as you learn what thresholds work best for your store.
Set realistic thresholds based on your store's actual performance. If your store typically does $8,000 in daily sales, setting a "low sales" alert at $7,500 will trigger almost every day. Start with a threshold that would genuinely concern you -- perhaps $5,000 or $4,000 -- and adjust from there.
