Voids
The Voids page shows individual void transactions -- cancelled tickets and post-voids that occurred at the registers. This is an important tool for monitoring register activity and supporting loss prevention efforts.
What Is a Void?
A void occurs when a transaction or line item is cancelled after being rung up. There are several types:
- Line void -- A single item is removed from a transaction before it is completed
- Cancel ticket -- An entire transaction is cancelled before payment
- Post-void -- A completed transaction is voided after the fact (the most sensitive type)
Void List
The page displays a table of individual void events with the following information:
| Column | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Date | The business date when the void occurred |
| Terminal | Which register the void happened on |
| Ticket | The transaction/ticket number |
| Cashier | The cashier who performed the void |
| Amount | The dollar amount of the voided transaction |
Filtering
Use the date range picker at the top to focus on a specific period. This is the same date range used across all pages.
How to Use Void Data
Daily review
Check voids from the previous day as part of your morning routine. Look for anything unusual -- large dollar amounts, voids at odd hours, or patterns with specific cashiers.
Post-void investigation
Post-voids are the most critical to monitor because they happen after a transaction is complete. A legitimate post-void might be a customer who changed their mind right after paying. But frequent post-voids by the same cashier could indicate a problem.
Patterns to watch for
- Same cashier, many voids -- May need retraining on register operation, or may warrant further investigation
- Large dollar amounts -- High-value voids should always be reviewed
- Voids at unusual times -- Voids that happen when the store is quiet or near closing deserve attention
- Void immediately followed by a no-sale -- This pattern can sometimes indicate cash theft
Combine this page with the Loss Prevention view on the Cashiers page for a comprehensive picture of register activity that may need attention.
